Just ran our first quantum programs on Alibaba Cloud / CAS in Shanghai, China, D-Wave in Canada, and IBM in Yorktown, NY, USA

All signups were fast and easy (from data entry form to programming in 10 minutes).
  • Alibaba had an 11 Qubit system (we ran a nonsense program 50 times) and it ran almost immediately.  No data was generated.
  • D-Wave had a 2,048 Qubit system (number factoring demo ran 50 times) and it ran in a few seconds.  We factored 21 into 7 and 3 successfully.
  • IBM had 5 qubits, and we made a slightly better program (3 coins flipping multiple times, simultaneously, then a little math and measurement.  We ran it 1,024 times, it took just under 4 minutes, and the results read out by qubit.  I think I can see the noise in the system.

Key learning?  Need to better understand the programming models for both (composer 'gates' model, and python-like abstraction language).  Get familiar with GitHub, Jupyter Notebooks, and most likely Python.
  • Thank you Alibaba Cloud and the Chinese Academy of Sciences for making this available.
  • Thank you D-Wave for giving me time every month
  • Thank you IBM Corporation for making this available
