Low Volume Stock List, the Lowest Volume Stocks, September 4, 2024

- Is there a strategy to trade low volume stocks?
This information changes each day, as the attention of the market shifts. Some stocks that were yesterday's darlings are today's dogs left to themselves. We calculate this based on the current day's volume divided by the average annual volume of the stock as provided by our market data services provider.
Trading Volume / Average Trading Volume = CQNS Volume Metric (1.00 means typical trading)
We calculate this with each run for the prior day, and it gives a good sense where the market is suddenly interested or uninterested (and trading shares) when compared to the average trading volume for the past year.
Each stock has a 'typical' level of trading volume based on number of shares outstanding, investor interest, liquidity, momentum, availability of liquid stock options, news, speculative opinions, market capitalization, stock price changes, and so many more factors. Stocks have a natural level of volume in a period of time.
Every day, stocks do show a change in their trading behavior. Some stocks trade below their typical volume, seemingly forgotten, and those stocks are worth a look too.
This provides an opportunity to keep track of changes in perception and expectations in stocks. We cannot ingest all U.S. stock news every day, but we can use changes in volume to know where to look for material news.
We publish the day's trading volume percentage of annual volume for every stock in each run. You can see this for each stock, and we use the total average of the average for a gauge of market sentiment.
When we run our report, we use the volume of shares traded to data validate stocks for consideration into our analysis.
Well, we expect that some people do. This is one of our most popular searches on Google, and here is the data:
- Who wants to buy, trade or hold a stock that doesn't trade very often?
- Who wants to find a stock that is expensive to trade, with larger spreads?
- Who wants a stock that others seem to have forgotten?

There are many reasons why a stock's volume will change. Stock volume changes are like a rear-view mirror on stocks. You can go back in time for historical shifts to see whether this tends to be a bullish or bearish sign. Stocks with exceptionally large changes in trading volume can present a trading opportunity.
